The French firm of Nieuport built some of the best-looking and most effective fighting planes of World War I – the types 11, 17 and 28 gaining particular fame. Nieuports were also among the most numerous aircraft of the War, being operated by the French, British, Belgian, Russian, Italian and American forces.
